GREEN fingered gardener, Jackie Knight, who runs her own landscaping business in Formby, is making quite an impression at the first ever RHS Chatsworth Flower Show. They have had some really bad weather but that does not stop the visitors flocking to the show.
Tuesday 6 June was set aside as the press day for the show, held in the grounds of the Chatsworth Estate, but it closed early for the day following heavy rain and wind. The show in Derbyshire officially opened on Wednesday 7 June until Sunday 11 June, with some 90,000 visitors expected to attend. Tickets are still available on the day at the entrance.
Alan Titchmarsh, who launched the show along with Mary Berry, said: "You're not born and bred up north and say 'it's raining, we won't come'. This is why it is like this, so green, it's a blessing."
The show, at the Duke of Devonshire's Chatsworth estate in Derbyshire, is already sold out, although the 90,000 expected visitors face continued mixed weather conditions over the week. Braving the rain to put the final touches on a floral arch across the River Derwent from the stately home, the TV presenters were enthusiastic about the show. Titchmarsh said: "It's immensely exciting, we come to the county fair every year and love the Derbyshire Dales, the folk of Derbyshire are friendly, it's great for it to get its own RHS show." Jackie Knight was lucky enough to meet with Alan Titchmarsh (Pictured above), at the launch. Jackie has been creating gardens for flower shows since 1999 and has now featured on Gardeners World with this years entry.
Gardeners World spokesman said: "There are eight Show Gardens, including ‘Just Add Water‘ by multi-award-winning designer Jackie Knight which is inspired by the creations of Joseph Paxton, using water tumbling over sandstone rocks into a tranquil central pool with waterside planting. Other Show Garden designers will include Martin Cook, Gary Breeze, Lee Bestall, Sheena Seeks and Paul Hervey-Brookes." Jackie said: "It can take months to plan and design a garden, and I began the whole process back in January." She said: “My favourite part about landscaping and creating gardens is seeing how satisfied my customers are." ”When they come up to me and tell me how I designed there garden years ago and they are still in love with it, that is one of my favourite things." “It has always been a passion of mine because my dad used to be a landscaper as well." ”It can take up a lot of time and requires a lot of dedication and hard work to create a beautiful garden."
