Hundreds of cyclists to head through Formby to support NSPCC children’s charity

The Manchester to Liverpool Bike Ride will be heading through Formby this Sunday as the annual event offers a new coastal route to riders.

Hundreds of enthusiastic cyclists have already signed up for the event organised by children’s charity the NSPCC. The extended route, which heads along a sign-posted and marshalled track, takes participants from Manchester’s Salford Quays and ends in Liverpool’s Croxteth Hall Country Park.

Janette Drew, NSPCC fundraising manager for the North West, said: “We have been overwhelmed by the amount of support for this year’s Bike Ride – hundreds of people have already signed up to take part so we’re just keeping our fingers crossed for the weather.

“It’s going to be a real family event, with children from the age of eight taking part. We’re also planning to have a big festival atmosphere with refreshments at Croxteth Hall Country Park for everyone that crosses the finish line.

“I’d like to say a big thank you in advance to everyone who is taking part in the Bike Ride, and all of our wonderful local volunteers who are helping to marshal the route, without whom this event wouldn’t be the success we continue to see every year.”

Organisers of the event also have first aid, support vehicles and mechanics to support riders as they negotiate the routes. A coach will run from 6.30am to the start of the route, with return transport available for riders when they get to the finish line.

About the NSPCC

The NSPCC is the leading children’s charity fighting to end child abuse in the UK and Channel Islands. Using voluntary donations, which make up more than 90 per cent of our funding, we help children who’ve been abused to rebuild their lives, we protect children at risk, and we find the best ways of preventing child abuse from ever happening. So when a child needs a helping hand, we’ll be there. When parents are finding it tough, we’ll help. When laws need to change, or governments need to do more, we won’t give up until things improve.
