Super Sensory 1Km
On Friday 26th May in partnership with Active Sefton and Active Walks we are hosting an event called “Super Sensory 1km” for all the people who attend Fernley, St Joseph’s, other Frances Taylor Foundation services and outside organisations. On the day we have 40 volunteers from Active Sefton and Active Walks supporting us with this which is just fantastic and are expecting around 150 people with disabilities to be involved in the event.
The Super Sensory 1km event is designed to exercise participants senses along the way and everyone can Run it, walk it, wheel it, push it… anything goes! Over the 1km course through the National Trust Pinewoods participants will have the opportunity to exercise their seven sensory systems with experiences designed to appeal and challenge them. Participants will experience a multitude of sensory stimuli along the way from sounds to smells to colours to tastes. The Super Sensory 1km is particularly suitable for people with profound and multiple disabilities, people with a learning disability, people who are on the autism spectrum, people with dementia and people who engage with the world around them in a sensory way. The sensory world though is a lot of fun and sensory stimulation supports everyone’s memory so although the Super Sensory 1km may be particularly suited to some participants anyone can get involved.
