Come and Meet The Fornebei Vikings at Formby Library this Saturday
Come and meet the Fornebei Vikings at Formby Library tomorrow, Saturday 20th May. We are having a Viking day here at Formby Library on Saturday 20th May from 10am to 2pm.
There will be a bird of prey demonstration, Viking storytelling, game playing, shield design competition and displays of weaponry, costume and weaving.
The event is to use the great garden space we now have at the rear of the library as an educational and fun space aimed at families and children.
Entry will be free and there will be prizes to be won.
Why are we Formby people always interested in Vikings? Tony Higginson, one of the event's organisers, explained some of the background; “There is evidence that Formby is one of the earliest settlements in the country and I, and the people of Formby, are very proud of that and we want to mark that.
“There are 1,100 settlements in the north west of England and as Formby could be the first settlement in England we just want to invigorate the history of Formby.
“The entry point to Formby is the River Alt. What a scene that would have been when the Vikings first landed in the area."
The annual Viking Medievel Market Day in Formby will be the last Saturday in September. More details will be released closer to the date.
