Formby Pharmacist raises £5,000 running the London Marathon
A huge congratulations to Formby pharmacist Martin Hough from Ryders Chemist in Old Town Lane, who completed the Virgin Money London Marathon on Sunday 23rd April raising over £5,000 for Cancer Research UK.
Martin deals with cancer patients on a daily basis and wishes to do more to improve their treatments. Martin said: "In 1970's, just 1 in 4 survived cancer. Today it's 2 in 4. Cancer Research aims to make the survival rate 3 in 4 by 2034."
50-year-old Martin ran the 26.2 miles in 3 hours and 17 minutes! Martin said: "I was only narrowly beaten by runners dressed as a lobster, a duck and 3 men in a boat. Thankfully I finished ahead of the rhino and the pantomime horse otherwise my kids would not let me live that down! Seeing the panto horse stop for a wee was a very surreal sight that had me laughing for a good few miles. There was a fantastic carnival atmosphere and conditions were excellent. It was certainly worth the blisters and sore legs, though I may have to dig into the paracetamol at work today."
Martin went on to say: "I’d like to thank The Formby Bubble for allowing me to promote my fundraising for Cancer Research UK by running The London Marathon. There was a fantastic response from your readers. I had hoped to raise about £1000 but, due to some unbelievable generosity the final total will exceed £5000. Thankyou."
