Range High Sixth Formers travel to Paris for 2017 Art Trip

As part of the new Art and Photography ‘A’ level course, seven 6th formers, Mrs Maureen Hughes and Mrs Julia Swift enjoyed an international visit to Paris, one of the world’s best cities for art and culture and the world’s leading tourist destination. Studying in the field provides an excellent opportunity for students to learn and absorb first hand, from a direct source - invaluable experience for subject enhancement. Given the most recent events in Paris however, safety and security were a top priority but the group was determined that this would not stop them from visiting the city and immersing ourselves in its culture.

Based in the 2nd Arrondissement, housing the Opera and the Paris Stock Exchange the group explored, over two days, the iconic sights, the Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, Notre Dame, Sacre Coeur and the Moulin Rouge. The visit culminated with a pilgrimage to see the Mona Lisa in the Impressive Louvre Museum. The public transport system was navigated and local delicacies (snails!) were sampled in typical French Bistros.

The sixth formers had lots of positive comments about the trip:

“I loved every minute of my trip to Paris. We were surrounded by great Parisian landmarks and expanded our art knowledge. I especially loved seeing different art styles like the Renaissance paintings and visiting the museums. I love Paris as a city and I feel that it will really help me with my next project as I took some great photographs.” Faye Gilfoyle

“I loved going to Paris as I love the fashion there. It is a great city to visit and my favourite part was experiencing the fantastic views of Paris from the top of the Eiffel Tower and from the Sacre Couer at night.” Emma Ryan

“Paris was amazing! Everywhere you looked; there was beautiful architecture and amazing views. It is an iconic city, which certainly lives up to its reputation. Experiencing it all lit up at nighttime was even better. The view from Monmartre was spectacular. I loved every second and all the people that I was with!” Chloe Woods
