Formby Rotary presents cheque at Burns Night supper
The Rotary Club of Formby recently held it's annual Burns Night Supper at FHGC. It was a very successful evening. The haggis was piped in by piper Hugh MacDonald. Gordon Fraser addressed and toasted the haggis in true Robbie Burns fashion.
After an excellent traditional Burns Night meal of Cullen skink, haggis, tatties and neeps, the Club was entertained by the Formby Scottish Country Dancers. The dancers demonstrated each of the dances expertly and then encouraged Club members and their guests to have a go, not quite so expertly! But everyone enjoyed themselves and there were no broken limbs at the end of the evening!
Present at the supper were Joyce and Des Barnes, representing the Southport Branch of the Parkinson's Society, who were presented with a cheque for £1,050 by Club President Peter Connor. This money was raised at the Club's popular Carol Concert which took place just before Christmas. The Southport Branch is self funding and hopefully this money will go towards helping them support people with Parkinson's and their carers in our local area.
