Range High School 1975 Starters Reunion on Saturday 21st January
A school reunion is being held tomorrow night, Saturday 21st January at the Railway Pub at 7pm for all students who attended Range High School in its opening year 1975. There were 165 pupils on the first day which was 8th September 1975. There are already 56 people in the new Facebook group which has been set up for the event but, there are still a lot more people to get in touch with. The Facebook page is: Range High Formby 1975 Starters. The event should hopefully be taking place on Saturday 21st January 2017 but, that is not confirmed as yet.
Alan Ford who is running the group said: "We would like to get as many people as possible to the event, which will be fantastic." If you were one of the 165 pupils, please contact the Facebook page or if you are not on Facebook, please contact the Bubble and we will put you in touch with the organisers.
At the time of opening, Mr Graham Leech was the headmaster along with nine teaching staff. The name Range High came from the road it was built on, which was at that time, Range Lane, maybe due to it's close proximity to the rifle range. At the time of opening, the 160 11-yr-olds had to become accustomed to the sight of contractors vehicles working on the school. The school opened with one classroom/teaching block, comprising of classrooms, dining room, toilets, admin department and staff room. By Easter 1976, further facilities were ready such as sports hall, arts centre and science labs. It was thought that Range High School could accommodate 1,200 pupils by 1980 which, still remains at that same level today, in 2016.
