Fake goods operation in Formby ceased ahead of the festive season
A Fake Goods operation in Formby ceased ahead of the festive season.
Counterfeit goods potentially worth more than £1.7million have been seized following a raid by Sefton Council Trading Standards on industrial premises in the Formby area. Vast quantities of materials and packaging were seized, capable of producing approximately 2,000 Jo Malone candles and 80,000 bottles of One Direction perfume. It is thought the goods were destined for car boot sales and markets around the country in the lead up to Christmas.
The public is warned to be wary of any potential counterfeit goods as there have been serious safety concerns with candles and perfume in the past. Cllr Paulette Lappin, Cabinet Member for Regulatory, Compliance and Corporate Services, said: “I am delighted that we have been able to disrupt the manufacturing of these goods, especially ahead of the festive period.
“Importantly, this not just about inferior quality merchandise but also about public safety and making sure that the products you purchase are safe.” To contact the Citizens Advice Consumer Service call 03454 040506
