Christmas Comes Early for Marie Curie

Children at Trinity Saint Peters C of E Primary School in Formby got a chance to meet Santa this week when he popped by to thank them for donating old and unwanted toys towards a toy appeal organised by Marie Curie’s Formby Fundraising Group to stock the charity’s local shop ahead of the festive period.

Fundraiser Antony Jones said: “The toy appeal has been a great success, we can’t thank the Formby Fundraising Group enough for organising such a successful appeal. This is just one example of how the group has helped support Marie Curie since they were set up this summer. The group help raise awareness and funds in various ways, including looking after local collections, servicing our local tins in shops and businesses, and by organising local appeals and events just like this one.”

Antony added: “This year Marie Curie have a special ‘Festive Fundraising pack’ full of Christmassy ideas,so if you fancy holding your own small event, raffle, or doing something at work to support our nurses this Christmas, just email fundraising@mariecurie.org.uk or call 0845 052 4184 to order your free pack today.”

Formby group member Pauline Price said: “Oganising the toy appeal has been great, and it’s so nice to do something in support of others at this time of year. Being in a fundraisng group is really fun, and a great way to give something back to a really worthy cause that helps so many people and their families. Our toy appeal is just one example of the many ways our group supports the work of Marie Curie. It’s great when communities come together in support of a good cause, and we can’t thank the pupils, their parents, and the teachers of Trinity Saint Peters enough for their support with the appeal. The aim was to boost sales in the local Marie Curie shop ahead of Christmas, but the great thing is that all the money raised through the appeal will ensure that the Marie Curie can continue to provide care and support through terminal illness for patyients and families this Festive Period.”

Marie Curie is also looking for new members to join the Formby Fundraising Group. If you have some free time, and would like to find out more about how to get involved, please contact Antony Jones on 0151 801 1412 or email: antony.jones@mariecurie.org.uk
