The body of a woman in her 20's was found on Ainsdale beach today

The body of a woman who is believed to be in her late twenties has been found today on Ainsdale beach.

It is believed that dog walkers spotted the body while taking a stroll along the beach and they alerted the emergency services at around 11.55am.

Officers and paramedics arrived and the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "We can confirm enquiries are underway following the discovery of a woman’s body on Ainsdale beach this morning (Monday, 7 November 2016). At this time the death is being treated as unexplained." Officers are continuing with enquiries to trace next of kin and a post mortem will be conducted to help establish the cause of death.
