The first ever Pride of Formby awards was a night to remember

Last night, Friday 14th October, was the first ever Pride of Formby Awards organised by Formby Parish Council, which was a huge success and it is hoped that it will now become an annual event to recognise our unsung heroes of Formby.

The event was held at Gild Hall in Formby with guest presenters including David Fairclough, John Parrot, Alex Dickinson and the Mayor of Sefton together with our MC Neil Newton who kept the whole event ticking along nicely.

It was a night to honour both our young and older generation for all that they have done for the community and others and the reasons why they won were truly outstanding.

A spokesperson from Formby Parish Council said: "We would like to thank all the sponsors, local business sponsors of the awards who include Little Lilac Coffee House, Woodwards Wine Bar, Ian Cockbain Wealth Management, DAL Construction, B&B Construction, Formby Flooring Centre, Cafe D'Art, Redstar Brewery, The Moss, Formby Timber and Byrne & Son Menswear for helping put on the event."

"We would also like to thank Formby Bubble who have advertised the event and printed the nomination forms and help support the event."

The winners were:

Good Neighbour Award went to Alan Todd

Carer of the Year Award went to Lynn Gaskell

Young Person Fundraiser Award went to Hannah Ashby of Formby High School

Courage Award went to Barry and Jackie Devonside

Fundraiser of the Year Award went to Emma Graham and Gill Burns

Teacher of the Year Award went to Mrs McGugan from Range High School

Special Young Person of the Year Award went to Daniel Hunter from Formby High School

Community Hero Award went to Jennifer True and David and Christine Swannick

Lifetime Achievement Award went to Dr Reg Yorke

All the winners had a story to be told and left some of the audience very emotional and some in tears. It was both an emotional but yet rewarding night.

We would like to thank everyone who put forward nominations and if your nomination did not win this year then please put them forward next year. All nominations were worthy winners in their own right an we only wish we could have given them all an award but then it would not have left anyone for next year to be nominated so look out for next years Pride of Formby's Awards and nominate your unsung hero.
