Formby Dance pupil to star in new West End Musical

A HAT-TRICK for The Formby School of Dancing and Performing Arts as Formby pupil Amelia Poggenpoel, who is just 11 years old, is now the third pupil from the school to star in the West End.

Amelia has attended Singing and Drama classes at the school for many years now and has used her knowledge and talents to successfully win the part of Shonelle in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical School of Rock.

Amelia was due to start high school this year but took the brave step to go to London and audition for something she has always wanted. She has taken part in many of the shows at the Formby School and so felt ready and well prepared to take this huge step.

Her teachers, Alistair and Hayley Hannah and Tracey Batchelor are very proud of her and wish her the best of luck . Amelia will be following in the footsteps of Ryan Collinson –(Billy Elliott) and Eleanor Worthington-Cox - (Matilda, Scout, Blousey and The Enfield Haunting).

Formby School of Dancing and Performing Arts has been establishedhere in Formby for over forty years and is recognised as one of the best in the area. Talking from their studios in Timms Lane in Freshfield, Principals, Hayley Batchelor-Hannah and Alistair Hannah, believe that apart from the excellent standard of training in Dance, Drama and Singing, their popularity is also down to the fact that all their pupils are nurtuted and cared for, from the very shy to the more confident.

The West End musical is base on the ironic hit movie, this irresistible new musical follows Dewey Finn, a failed, wannabe rock star who decides to earn an extra bit of cash by posing as a supply teacher at a prestigious prep school.

There he turns a class of straight A pupils into a guitar-shredding, bass-slapping, mind-blowing rock band. But can he get them to the Battle of the Bands without their parents and the school's headmistres finding out?

David Fynn who plays Dewey, starred in film, Leap year and TV productions including, Game of Thrones, Sherlock, Dr Who, The Inbetweeners and Co-Star, Preeya Kalidas who plays Patty, starred in Bend it like Beckham, Casualty and Eastenders.

A huge well done and good luck to Amelia, Formby is very proud of you.
