The Formby Club is open...
The eagerly awaited Formby Club, opened its doors on Friday 5th August, at 12 noon, to its members. The Formby Club, formerly known as the Conservative Club, was first founded in 1926 and has undergone a fantastic revamp.
The Formby Club is for members only and is situated above Wetherspoons Lifeboat pub, offering a contemporary lounge bar and balcony terrace together with an 'old feel' snooker room and a small meeting room, which is available for hire.
The Committee, along with the Manager, Sandra and her team, worked hard to make the new premises feel welcoming and they all hope that membership will continue to grow over the coming months as news of the club spreads.
Sandra said: “We have been overcome by the high number of applications we have already received from new members, from both individuals and couples of all ages and were extremely excited about the opening. It was great to see so many of the old Conservative members and The Formby Club new members enjoying the evening. Boogaloo helped to create the party spirit and we look forward to many more nights like it.
Chariman Joe Riley said: "The club is fast turning into the 'hottest ticket in town' with lots of interest being shown for memberships. Apart from the amazing balcony, one of the great attractions is the fabulous snooker room, already two Formby teams have booked it for their matches. My concept of the revamp and reopening is: ‘New Club, New Era’.
The club members will be encouraged to join the resident snooker and darts teams but, if a quiet drink with friends is what you are looking for, the bar lounge or terrace on a summer night will provide the perfect surroundings.
If any members would like to join the snooker or darts team let Sandra know as soon as possible.
Membership is limited to over 18’s only and each application will be reviewed by the committee. All members will be expected to adhere to club policies, to ensure that the club remains a relaxed place for all its members to enjoy. As with most Member-Only clubs, applicants may be required to attend an informal meeting with some of the committee officers but it is anticipated that this will be done as quickly as possible so as not to delay new memberships being processed. At this time, joining is not dependant on knowing an existing member, anyone wishing to join can be proposed and seconded by the club committee.
Membership forms and more information can be obtained from the club or by contacting the secretary on secretaryformbyclub@gmail.com or Sandra (Manager) on 01704 879351
