The woman who died in the Formby road collision has been named.

The woman who died in a road traffic collision in Formby yesterday (Friday, 22 July 2016) has been named as Betty Jones, 84 years, from Southport. She died following a serious road traffic collision on the road next to the Formby bypass.

At about 2.30pm, emergency services were called to a report of a collision involving two vehicles on Orrell Hill Lane, close to the Red Squirrel pub. The woman, a passenger in one of the cars, was taken to hospital for treatment but later died.

The drivers of both cars stopped at the scene and are assisting officers. Next of kin have been informed and formal identification of the woman has taken place.

The vehicles involved were a yellow Skoda Octavia and a silver Suzuki Alto. The incident blocked one of the Northbound carriageways of the Formby Bypass for several hours with complete gridlock and tailbacks through Ince wood to Thornton and also back through Lunt.

Police were still at the scene at 5:00pm waiting for the vehicles to be recovered.
