NHS Improvement has confirmed the appointment of Ged Clarke as Non-Executive Director of Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust.

Educated in Southport, Ged went to University College in Cardiff. He is a chartered accountant having qualified with Price Waterhouse in Liverpool. Ged went on to form Kinsella Clarke Chartered Accountants in Bootle.

Ged is an experienced NHS Non-Executive having spent several years at the Walton Centre for Neurology and Neurosurgery Foundation Trust.

At the Walton Centre he was Non-Executive Director before becoming Chair of the Audit committee and then Vice-Chairman.

He played a key role in the process of that Trust obtaining Foundation Trust Status.

Ged lives locally in Birkdale. He is married and has three grown up children. In his spare time he enjoys golf at the Royal Birkdale Golf Club.

Ged has been appointed for two years and is entitled to receive a remuneration of £6,157 a year.

His term of office runs from 1 May 2016 to 30 April 2018.

He succeeds Graham Slee whose term of office came to an end last month. Jeannette Newman, Non-Executive Director, has been appointed to Graham’s role as Vice-Chair of the Board.

Trust Chair Sue Musson said: “I am very pleased to welcome Ged to the Board. He brings very valuable local knowledge and relevant NHS experience to the Trust.”

Non-Executive appointments to NHS Trusts made by NHS Improvement are subject to the Code of Practice of the Commissioner for Public Appointments.

Mr Clarke has declared no political activity in the last five years.
