Celebrate Your Local Knitting Store on Yarn Shop Day

Whether you're a crochet expert, novice knitter, or just fancy trying out a new craft, don't miss Yarn Shop Day

On 30th April 2016, the third annual Yarn Shop Day will take place in knitting and craft stores across the country, and Formby business The Good Wool Shop is just one of the many stores involved. The event has been organised by leading publications Let's Knit and Let's Get Crafting in a bid to celebrate Britain's much-loved independent wool shops.

“Last year on Yarn Shop day we were just finding our feet”, says Isabel Jordan of The Good Wool Shop. “Now we’re more than a year old and have a growing band of regular customers, two thriving knit and crochet groups and a packed programme of workshops and courses.”

On Saturday 30th April The Good Wool Shop, which is part of Derbyshire’s on Chapel Lane, has plenty for regulars and newcomers alike to look forward to. “We’ve been collecting pictures of the amazing things people have made with our yarns, and we’ll be putting all of these on display as a source of inspiration! Look out for exclusive patterns and free gifts to take away, woolly activities for kids and some one-off special offers too.

“Most excitingly, at 5.30 we are delighted to welcome Lynne Hawksworth from the charity Knitted Knockers, who will be telling us about the great work they do and the charity’s amazing success story over the last year. Knitted Knockers are soft and comfortable breast prosthetics, knitted by volunteers and provided free for women who have had breast cancer surgery. This fascinating event will take place at Elbow Lane Methodist Church, admission is free but donations to the charity will be welcome.”

Last year over 200 shops across the country took part in Yarn Shop Day. Said Let's Knit editor Sarah Neal “There was a fantastic buzz amongst participating stores, and many shops reported one of their best ever days of trading. This year's event will be even bigger and better, so if you're a crafter who has neglected your local yarn shop in the past then it's definitely the day to pay them a visit and see what they have to offer you.”
