United Utilities have been investigating the issue and applied to Sefton Council for traffic control on Southport Road. Emergency traffic lights are now in place and it is now apparent that the problem is a burst pipe.
They have had to carry out an emergency shut-off due to the burst pipe. The engineers are on site and working hard to fix the pipe as soon as possible. They have said they are hoping for it to be fixed through the night.
United Utilities have said: "We're sorry for the trouble this may be causing you and we will get your taps flowing normally again as quickly as we can."
