Freshfield train victim identified as 54-year-old Southport man

Southport man died at controversial Fisherman's Path crossing

A 54-year-old Southport man died after being hit by a train in Freshfield yesterday, British Transport Police have said.

The emergency services were called to the Fisherman's Path crossing in Freshfield at around 9.20am yesterday,( January 21) following reports of an accident. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, and his family have been informed. He has not yet been named.

A spokesman for BTP said: "A spokesman for British Transport Police said: “Our officers were called to an area near Freshfield, Formby, Merseyside at 9.20am on Thursday, 21 January following reports of a person being hit by a train.

“Colleagues form Merseyside Police and the North West Ambulance Service also attended but a 54-year-old man from the Southport area was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The death is not being treated as suspicious and the man’s family have been informed.

“A file will be prepared for the coroner.”
