FRANK'S REPORT 18th January 2016

The weather continues to cause havoc with Formby Junior Sports Club’s fixtures. Football matches on all Sefton pitches were cancelled for the second weekend in succession. This of course included Deansgate Lane and Smithy Green. Craven Minor League games have been postponed until February 8th but a few outstanding cup ties will be played if the pitches concerned are fit.

Please understand that this situation is due to exceptional circumstances completely out of our control. Every effort is being made by the club to provide football for our members. This has already happened in the Inter Club Section by arranging to play on the 3G pitches at Formby Play Sport.

Although it has not been possible to involve all Inter Club age groups over the last two weeks, the extension of an extra hour until 1pm should make this possible next Saturday, as once again Inter Club will be on the 3G pitches.

Representative team managers are also trying their best to provide coaching and away matches. The good news is that an extension at the end of the season seems likely.

Only two Representative teams played last weekend with both fixtures being played away from home.

Formby Junior Sports Club Under 13 Girls’ played Euxton Girls’ at Edge Hill University last Saturday.

It proved to be a fast and exciting encounter on the 3G artificial surface. FJSC with enforced changes played well in the first half. Imogen Murphy deputising in goal made some fine saves. Rebecca Cain playing in an unfamiliar left back position was outstanding. The FJSC team were dangerous in attack with player of the match Lily Hamilton, Josie McIver and Penny Fletcher all causing problems for the Euxton defence. Despite chances for both teams the match was goalless at half time.

Heavy snow in the second half was an extra ingredient. Central defender Abby Hobbs and right back Lauren Carr made some crucial tackles as Euxton began to go on the attack at every opportunity. Euxton took the lead from a corner but FJSC immediately rallied. Molly Graham worked tirelessly in midfield and captain Ella Lawson scored a much- deserved equaliser for FJSC. There were no further goals in a match in which both teams played exceptionally well in difficult conditions.

FJSC Under 13 Whites from the Championship played Premier Division Churchtown away in the cup. Churchtown took the lead after twenty-five minutes. Three minutes later the Whites went further behind. In the final minute before half time FJSC’s Callum Richmond reduced the deficit scoring from the penalty spot.

Churchtown extended the lead early in the second half. With ten minutes to go the scoreline became 3-2 after Thomas Marsh had scored for FJSC. In a thrilling finish Churchtown scored their fourth and decisive goal with two minutes remaining. Man of the match was goalkeeper Conor Chesser.

One hundred and thirty-two members of FJSC’s Inter Club Section played their matches on the 3G Pitches at Formby Play Sport. It was a great experience for all the children and we thank Mr. Hugh McAuley for making this unique facility available for FJSC’s use. Without these pitches there would have been no football at all played in Formby for our club members.

At 9am eighteen Reception children and a smaller group of Year One boys played. The youngsters were not put off by the cold conditions despite the temperature being – 2C. Well wrapped up, all the children soon had rosy cheeks and enjoyed their first outing since the end of November. It was the same all morning and even at 1pm the temperature had only just reached the dizzy height of +2C.

The morning was an outstanding success. To allow the waterlogged pitches to recover at Deansgate Lane, the Inter Club Section will play on the 3G pitches for the next two Saturdays- the 23rd and the 30th.

One hundred and ninety-seven goals were scored in the games last Saturday. Amongst the goals were - Megan Hulse, Leah Naylor, Alice Hughes-Strange, Evie Balshaw, Isabella Moore, Archie Beckett, Max McBride, Rowan Maker, Daniel Allmark, Lewis Forsyth, Jack Liptay, Danny Lea, Ryan Kennedy, Luke Lewis, Dilan Sathiyanathan, Connor Daulby, Ivan Weights, Finley Richards, Alfie Griffiths, Thomas Dent, Liam Kirk, Fraser Holloway, George Campbell-Myatt, Micky Denison, Lewis Parker, Sam Mycek, Ioannis Kardoulias, Jacob Heaney, Dev Patel, Corey Ashworth, Dominic Hamilton, Dominic Baines, Connor Lloyd, Dylan Riley, Caleb Johnson, Daniel Green, Ernest Weights, Jake Stanton, Oliver Mercer, Ellie Todino, Emily Ball, Evie Lovelady-Lang, Pippa Gowling, Grace Rooney, Brooke Denison, Jessica Lynch, Paige Leather, Chloe Price, Holly Rimmer, Neve Thornton, Ava Lewis, Sophia Wright, Bo Price, Lily Hall, Beth Brewer, Erin Denison, Anna Johnson, Isabella Walters, Amy Green, Anna Rutherford, Sophie Dixon, Ana Swain- Velasco, Ellie Brewer, Nanci Farley and Nina Macy.

Unfortunately the list of scorers does not include the Reception group. It is quite possible that some goals have been missed as the referees found it difficult to keep up with the fast scoring!
