Formby Golfer will go global to represent England

Local golfers, including Paul Kinnear from Formby, to represent England on the world stage

A dozen leading golfers will represent England in championships on three continents in the New Year.

Four players will tour Australia in January and early February: Adam Chapman of Cumbria, Bradley Moore of Derbyshire, Jonathan Thomson of Yorkshire and Ashton Turner of Lincolnshire.

Four will play in the South American Amateur in January: Bronte Law of Cheshire, Meghan MacLaren of Northamptonshire, James Allan of Essex and Marco Penge of Sussex.

Four will tour South Africa in late January and February: Jamie Bower of Yorkshire, Paul Kinnear of Lancashire, Alfie Plant of Kent and Sean Towndrow of Lancashire.

The quartet will contest six championships on the South African tour:

Gauteng North Stroke Play, January 28-30 at Irene Golf Club. Toby Tree of Sussex won this title in 2012 and 2013.

South African Stroke Play, February 2-5 at Blue Valley Golf Club.

African Open, February 10-13 at Leopard Creek Golf Club.

Southern Cape Open Stroke Play, February 18-20 at Mossel Bay Golf Club.

Cape Province Open, February 23-25 at Kingswood Golf Estate.

South African Amateur, February 28 - March 4 at George Golf Club.

The players, all England internationals, are: Jamie Bower (Meltham), a semi-finalist in the English amateur who tied sixth in the European amateur; Paul Kinnear (Formby), who played in The Open at St Andrews and was third in the Brabazon Trophy; Alfie Plant (Sundridge Park), who was runner-up in the English amateur and the Grand Prix de Chiberta in France; and Sean Towndrow (Southport & Ainsdale), who helped England beat Spain in the 2015 international and was 10th in the Brabazon Trophy.
