The fresh air of Formby helps the children of Chernobyl
FRESHFIELD Bowling Club recently welcomed a group of 11 children from Belarus as part of the Chernobyl Children's Life Line charity, for an afternoon of food and fun games. The nationwide charity brings over 4,000 children from Belarus to the UK each year for four weeks of fresh air, uncontaminated food, as well as dental and eye check ups. Each year the Formby branch invite a small group of children to the area as a way to help boost the children's immune systems for at least two years, helping them to resist or recover from serious illness. One of the activities planned was a day spent at Freshfield Bowling Club, members prepared a feast of food for the children and challenged them to a friendly games of bowls. The afternoon ended with a special visit from Mr Trix, who entertained the children with his magic tricks and games. Each of the children where given a goodie bag full of sweets, treats and balloons. The afternoon was funded by Freshfield Bowling Club members, with the surplus of £380 going towards the funding of bringing the children back to Formby next year.
