Race for Life

Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life is a series of women-only events raising money for research into all 200 types of cancer.

Over the past 20 years, more than seven million women have taken part in Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life, raising over £513 million to fund the charity’s life-saving work. But it does not stop there. In 2015 Cancer Research UK hopes that Race for Life will raise £50 million so that it can keep on fighting until cures for all 200 types of cancer, affecting men, women and children, are found.

You can walk, jog or charge a 5k or 10k, take part in one of our muddy obstacle course events or even try out a Half or full Marathon - there are lots of ways to support Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life.

Lauren Johnson and her friends from Formby are running the Race for Life and have set up a Just Giving page in aid of her best friend Shannon Thompson. Here is her story.

Laurens Story

This week after an agonising wait we received the news that our best friend Shannon Thompson was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma. Realising that Shannon will have to start chemotherapy soon as possible is devastating but has driven us on in raising awareness for this horrible disease. Seeing Shannon's positivity has made us realise how much of an amazing, beautiful and caring person she is and we couldn't ask for a better friend.

On the 21st of June 10 of her best friends will be running the Race for Life for Shannon along with her friends and family. Kelly Rose has set up a very special group named "Shannon's Angels" who will be taking part too. We would really appreciate if family and friends can sponsor us in raising awareness for this disease. Events like this are vital in funding Cancer Research UK's life-saving work into preventing, diagnosing and treating cancer.
