Pub Landlady from Formby fined almost £50,000 for unpaid taxes...
A Merseyside pub landlady has been hit with a fine of nearly £50,000 for dodging tax.
Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs have given Tracy Marie Martin, who lives inFormby, a penalty of £47,312 on the basis of unpaid taxes of around £70,000.
HMRC’s Jennie Granger, Director General for Enforcement and Compliance, said Mrs Martin was among a number of people who have been named and shamed in order to show the amount that people who fail to pay taxes are costing the government.
She added: “The majority of people declare the tax that is due, but there are a small minority who try to evade their responsibilities.
“Publishing taxpayers’ names is not something we do lightly. We are publishing the names of tax cheats as it lets the community know we are tackling this and encourage others to get back on track.
“In the last year, penalties have ranged from £10,000 to over £29m.
“We urge people to come forward, so we can help them get back on track.”
Mrs Martin, of Duke Street, in Formby, could not be contacted by the ECHO. It is not known what pub she was running when the taxes - due between 2010 and 2014 - went unpaid.
