We are very sad to say that a person has been struck and killed by a train at Freshfield

Emergency services are on scene in Freshfield after a person was struck and killed by a train just after 12 noon this afternoon, Monday 15th January. The Northern Line is blocked between Freshfield station and Ainsdale while emergency services attend the scene.

Trains are suspended from Hall Rd to Southport where a replacement bus should be in operation. Normal service not expected until 14.30 at earliest. Liverpool trains stopping at Hall Road.

A spokesperson for Merseyrail said: "Disruption due to a person sadly being hit by a train."

"A rail replacement bus service has been requested to run between Hall Road and Southport, but is not yet in operation."

UPDATE AT 2:40pm

Services on the Hunts Cross and Southport line are now returning to normal. Some delays and alterations are still expected.
