Formby could be in for a dramatic change in the weather as the Met Office warns of heavy rain and possible thunderstorms across parts of England and Wales, with increasingly unsettled conditions expected today and into Thursday.
The latest Met Office forecast for Formby shows a much wetter picture developing, with rain and showers expected through much of Wednesday and temperatures still reaching around 23°C.
The risk increases further on Thursday, when the Formby forecast currently shows periods of heavy rain and heavy showers developing from late morning and continuing through much of the afternoon and evening.
A yellow weather warning is in force, with the Met Office warning that warm and humid air could help trigger heavy showers and thunderstorms.
Some areas could experience intense downpours, frequent lightning and significant amounts of rain falling within a relatively short period of time.
Met Office Chief Forecaster Steve Willington said there is a growing risk of heavy rain and thunderstorms as warm and humid air helps to trigger increasingly intense showers.
He warned that some places could receive significant rainfall in a short period, potentially leading to localised flooding, travel disruption and frequent lightning.
Thursday could bring another potentially difficult spell of weather as slow moving heavy and thundery rain spreads northwards across the UK. Where the heaviest rain develops, prolonged rainfall could result in substantial totals building up over several hours.
There is still uncertainty over exactly where the most intense thunderstorms and rainfall will develop, meaning Formby may see heavy rain without a thunderstorm, while areas caught beneath the strongest cells could experience much more severe conditions.
Residents are therefore advised to keep an eye on the latest forecast throughout the day, particularly anyone travelling or planning outdoor activities.
After the recent warm and settled conditions, the change could be quite noticeable, with heavy downpours potentially causing surface water and difficult driving conditions.
The unsettled weather may also continue into Friday and the weekend, with further showers and longer spells of rain possible, although there should also be some drier and brighter periods.
