The Formby Festival is back this year in July

The Formby Festival is back on Friday 16th July, Saturday 17th July and Sunday 18th July.

After the popular event being cancelled last year due to Covid, hopefully this year it will go ahead as planned. This will be the 8th Formby Festival.

Organisers of the festival have previously attracted a footfall of over 10,000 people to Duke Street Park over the festival weekend which has become a North West favourite in July.

Formby Festival is a 3 day celebration in the heart of Formby. The festival raises money for local and national charities and is run by a team of volunteers. Formby festival is more than just a festival. It brings food, drink, live music and entertainment over 3 days.

Friday 16th July - Party in the Park which is strictly for adults only 18 plus. This will be from 5pm to 11pm.

Saturday 17th July - is Show Day for the whole family which begins at 11am and finishes at 11pm, usually ending with a big musical firework display.

Sunday 18th July - is Carnival Day and starts at 11am and finishing at 6pm. The Katumba band usually make a stunning attraction to Carnival Day with drumming and choreography, drawing influence from the rhythms and movement of Brazil, Africa and the Caribbean and it is fantastic!

The Katumba Band

In previous years the Formby Festival has seen Street food and drink, children’s attractions and dancing from around the world, jugglers, magicians and live entertainment. Previous years have seen the craft centre with a wide range of clothes, jewellery, cakes, cheeses, wine and artworks and the display arena will usually feature dog shows, gymnastics, martial arts and dance troupes.

The main stage has a wide variety of musical performances throughout the day.

A unique firework display usually ends the Saturday, with fireworks designed specially for the Formby Festival. Fireworks, stereo music and stereo video are synchronised to create a stunning culmination and finale to the Show Day. A stunning show for all the family!

Formby Festival

Formby Festival was born in 2013, since then it has grown into a pinnacle part of Formby’s summer calendar. Each year families from across the North West travel to take in the delights we have to offer! From our countless world food and drink stalls to the thriving main stage and even the specialist children’s entertainment we have there truly is something for everyone to enjoy!

Formby Festival was set up to try and recreate the old Formby Show that was a highlight across the country many years ago. They set out to create a new event with a twist which could incorporate food, drink and music and last for a weekend offering something for all ages. It has since grown over the past few years and is firmly set on the calendar as the third weekend in July. Over 10,000 people attend this event and it is growing each year. Obviously last year 2020 the festival could not go ahead due to covid.

Previous festivals have seen cuisines and delights from across the globe with something to satisfy each person's taste. Italian? Thai? Indian? Real ales, fine wines and everything in between. Whatever quenches your thirst they’ve got it!

In previous years, the main stage was jam packed with the finest talent the UK has to offer. From Friday night right through to Sunday evening you could hear local bands, choral groups and even see performances from TV stars!

There was things to keep the little ones busy too! Inflatable’s, archery, climbing wall, water bumper boats, paint balling, archery, the cave, rodeo bull, steam train, donkey rides to name but a few. They even had free activities for the kids to include kids cooking zone, magic shows, balloon modelling, circus school and a craft marquee (all free). There was a dog display team or other displays in the arena. You could even enter the bake off competition. Let’s hope this year will include everything that previous years have which were a huge success.

Every year they aim to make Formby Festival even better than the last.
