Ten new trees to be planted on Redgate in Formby
Ten new trees are due to planted on Redgate in Formby after a successful bid to the Urban Tree Challenge Fund.
Councillors were asked to provide match funding from S106 money, which is received from developers to fund community improvements.
A total of £9,000 was secured for new tree planting: £4,500 from the Urban Tree Challenge Fund and £4,500 match-funded.
A £3,700 scheme to plant ten new tress on Redgate must be completed within this planting season, and the remainder will be used to fund trees in other areas of the ward.
Cllr Nina Killen said: "We were delighted to have been successful in the bid from the Urban Tree Challenge Fund having been unsuccessful earlier. Street trees offer a range of benefits, not only do they improve the look of the area, they improve air quality, encourage wildlife and boost mental wellbeing."
The Urban Tree Challenge Fund is part of the Government’s Nature for Climate Fund, supporting the planting of 44,000 large standard trees over a two-year period from 2021 to 2023.
