A 15 year old girl who was taken to hospital after getting into difficulties in the water at Formby Beach on Bank Holiday Monday has sadly died.
Emergency services were called to the beach on Albert Road at around 3.30pm on Monday 25 May following concerns for the safety of a teenage girl. A large scale emergency response was launched, involving police, coastguard teams, ambulance crews, the air ambulance and a coastguard helicopter.
The girl, now named as Chiedza Nyanjowa, from the Cheshire area, was taken to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital where she remained in a critical condition. Sadly, she passed away in hospital earlier today, Saturday 30 May.
Paying tribute, her family said:
“Her family would like to express their gratitude to everyone that helped Chiedza. Her family are glad that there were people around her to support her, their support shows that she was loved.
“This is a difficult time for the family, who would appreciate any form of prayer.
“Her family describe her as a bubbly person, she loved Christ and going to church. She loved cooking, she was a giver and wanted to be a nurse when she grew up so she could give back.
“She will be greatly missed and remembered for her kind spirit.”
A report has been passed to the Sefton Coroner’s Office.
Everyone at Formby Bubble sends their sincere condolences to Chiedza’s family and friends at this incredibly difficult time. 💙
