It was Super Sunday for Formby Junior Sports Club.   In the morning FJSC Under 11 Blacks won the Harry Cope Cup Final at Southport FC Stadium and in the afternoon FJSC Under 13 Blacks were crowned Premier Division Champions at Deansgate Lane.

REPRESENTATIVE TEAM MATCHES

FJSC Under 11 Blacks played Forefield Rangers in the Craven Minor League’s Harry Cope Cup Final at the Southport FC Stadiumand started in phenomenal fashion with some fantastic triangles and passing moves. After some solid pressing by Formby, and good defending and goalkeeping by Forefield, FJSCtook the lead midway through the first half with an outrageous shot from Ethan Catleugh. The ball was half cleared to the edge of the box where Ethan fired the ball towards the far top corner. The Forefield keeper got finger tips to the shot but couldn’t stop it hitting the top corner of the net.

Against the run of play Forefield found an unexpected way back into the game with agoal from a penalty following a handball call after a fantastic recovery challenge from Joseph Kerrigan. The score remained at 1-1 until half time.

After the interval Formby came out raring to go and Jack Hansen nearly scored twice only to be denied by two wonderful saves by theForefield keeper. Eventually Formby went ahead after a half cleared corner was hammered home by Jack Hansen from just inside the box. FJSC had further unconverted chances but dug deep to preserve their 2-1lead, and in the closing stages Max Byford provided a crucial save from a long range free kick.

After the disappointment of a penalty loss last season in the cup final, those ghosts were firmly put to bed. Captain Isaac Melton lifted the cup with his Formby Junior Sports Clubteammates and the celebrations ensued! Seethe photograph above.

Joint team managers Paul Hansen and ColinByford are so proud of the boys after twoyears of great development together. The victory caps an absolutely brilliant season for the boys.

FJSC Under 13 Blacks went into their midweek match with Crosby Stuart needing a victory to keep their League title challenge alive and showed visible nerves. They struggled early on to gain a foothold in the game, with Crosby proving more than a match for them.

Isaac Jones found the net twice in the first half, but Crosby Stuart responded strongly, equalising to make it 2–2 at half-time.

FJSC continued to labour in the second half until fifteen minutes from time, when they finally found their rhythm. Two goals each from Charlie Richardson and Ellis Coyne then sealed a hardfought and crucial 7-2 win.

On Sunday the FJSC Under 13 team needed to win their final league match of the season to become Craven Minor League Premier Division Champions for the 2025/26 season.  The boys produced a superb allround performance and showed maturity, focus, and attacking quality from the outset. They controlled possession, pressed high, and moved the ball with confidence, quickly asserting their authority on the game.

Isaac Jones was the standout performer, delivering a devastating attacking display with four welltaken goals, showcasing his movement, composure, and finishing ability. His contributions set the tone and continually stretched the Southport defence. FJSC’s attacking threat was relentless, with further goals coming from Caden Walker, Charlie Richardson, and Alfie Frost, each finding the net to cap off a dominant team performance. The goals reflected the squad’s strength in depth and unselfish play, with excellent linkup across the pitch.

Defensively, FJSC remained organised and disciplined, limiting Southport Trinity Whitesto few clear chances and ensuring control was maintained throughout the match.  The final whistle confirmed not just a convincing 7–1 victory, but also the Craven Minor Premier League title—an achievement fully deserved after a season of hard work, consistency, and outstanding teamwork. It was a fitting end to an excellent campaign.  Well done to the team and congratulations also to managers Simon Walker and Mark O’Connor for all their hard work.

FJSC Under 14 Blacks Sunday team produced a really good performance against well matched opponents Real Skem in the final West Lancs league match of the season. It was a game of two halves.  The first half was full of some excellent football and the second halfthe team showed a strong team spirit, with some spells of good football thrown in.

Everyone played well but there were three stand -out performers. Connor Howells was excellent, especially in the first half. Ben Harris looked back to his best in the first half too - and gave the Real Skem defence manyproblems. Finally birthday boy and Man of the Match Joe Tucker who had a fine game both in and out of possession. It was a closely contested match with FJSC winning 4-3 with two goals from Ben Harris and one goal each for Harry Redhead and Fabian Riley.  It was a very good all round  display and the team can go into their Saturday cup final with much confidence.

It was also the final league match of the season for FJSC Under 13 Whites.  The Whites were leading 2-1 at half time against Southport FC Community FC.  The match was very even in the second half with FJSC eventually winning 4-3.  It was team manager Colin Crutchley’s last match in charge.  FJSC would like to thank Colin who has done a wonderful job coaching the team since Under 7’s.
