The Raven Meols Community Centre has celebrated its 40th anniversary with a special relaunch event following a 15-month refurbishment project. The reopening was officially marked by Sefton Central MP Bill Esterson, who cut the ribbon to the sound of Enjoy Yourself performed by the U3A Ukulele Group.
Also in attendance were Councillors Carol Richards, Chris Page, and Catie Page, who spent the afternoon discussing the interests and hobbies of the many local groups based at the centre. They were photographed alongside Group Leader Carol Wylie.
Entertainment and Activities
The relaunch was filled with performances and demonstrations showcasing the talents of centre users:
Tappy Toes children’s dance group delighted the audience.
The Tai Chi group encouraged everyone to join in with gentle exercises.
The Chess Club, Card Makers, and Formby Photo Group all demonstrated their skills and hobbies.
Dedicated Volunteers Behind the Refurbishment
The refurbishment has been made possible thanks to the hard work of a dedicated committee of volunteers — Jane McNeice, Edward Patten, and Rob Haseman — along with former committee members Ann Knowles, Oliver Whitaker, Andy Ray, and Alan Tulley. Their commitment over the last 15 months has ensured the centre is now fully modernised and fit for the future.
Improvements Completed
The extensive upgrades include:
Full redecoration and new carpets throughout
Upgraded heating and lighting systems
A brand-new kitchen and additional storage facilities
Improved signage
Wi-Fi installation
A new baby change unit
A Great Community Celebration
The afternoon ended with a buffet of tea, cakes, and savoury treats. Everyone agreed the relaunch was a wonderful success and a fitting way to mark 40 years of community spirit.
