Incident occurred around 1pm this afternoon, Monday 30th June.
A police chase unfolded just after 1pm today on the Formby Bypass, near the section that runs past Woodvale, where construction works are currently ongoing. This stretch of road has a reduced speed limit of 30mph, with warning signs for speed enforcement — although there are currently no fixed speed cameras in place.

The incident began on the 30mph section of the bypass, where officers pursued a vehicle towards the Coast Road junction. Witnesses reported seeing a combination of two unmarked and two marked police cars involved in the pursuit. The chase came to a dramatic end at the traffic lights at the Coast Road turn-off, where police successfully boxed in the vehicle with their four police cars and detained a woman at the scene.
The reason for the pursuit has not yet been confirmed other than the woman looks to have been speeding at more than 30mph and we are awaiting an official statement from Merseyside Police.
With four police vehicles active on this short stretch of road today, it serves as a reminder to drive cautiously, especially through the temporary speed restriction zones.
We will update this story as soon as more information becomes available.
