This important message has been shared by Redgate Rovers FC, and we feel it’s vital the wider community is made aware.
Over the Christmas period, a selfish and completely thoughtless act has caused serious damage to the football pitches at Deansgate Lane, after someone decided it would be a good idea to take a motorbike onto the playing fields.
The result is significant damage to the pitches — and right now, there are real concerns over whether they will even be fit for play when the new year football season restarts.
These pitches are relied upon by several local grassroots clubs who, with very limited resources and no full-size 4G facilities in the area, use these grounds to provide football for hundreds of local children every week.
This isn’t just about grass — it’s about children’s wellbeing, physical activity, friendships, confidence, and the safe routine that grassroots sport provides.
Repairing damage of this nature is not quick, easy, or cheap. In the meantime, children may be left without somewhere to train or play — all because of one reckless and unnecessary decision.
As a community, we really can — and must — do better.
If anyone has any information, please contact Redgate Rovers FC or Merseyside Police.
Let’s protect the spaces that protect our children.
