Emergency services were called to Formby beach last night, Tuesday 17th February, after a woman was reported to have been seriously injured in the sand dunes near Victoria Road.
Merseyside Police alerted HM Coastguard, prompting a response from both Crosby and Southport Coastguard Rescue Teams (CRT).

In a statement shared on social media, HM Coastguard Crosby said: “Last night our team and Southport CRT (Coastguard Rescue Team) were called to assist Merseyside Police after a call made to them from a female who had fallen in the sand dunes near Victoria Road, Formby.”
“Our team attended station and readied our Argocat, CRV (4x4) and Area Support Vehicle. Our team then deployed onto the beach at Altcar and drove down the shoreline where we were met by Southport CRT who were with the casualty and police.”
“Southport CRT had already commenced casualty care with the patient who had suspected back/spinal failure injuries.”
“Paramedics then attended and with the support of ourselves and Southport CRT the casualty was transferred into a stretcher.”
“Due to the remote location, paramedics requested the use of our Argocat to transport the casualty back to Victoria Road car park where the ambulance was waiting.”
“With approval from paramedics and the Duty Coastal Officer, Crosby CRT loaded the casualty into the Argocat and transported her from the sand dunes to the car park.”
“The casualty was then transported to hospital in an ambulance and both Coastguard teams headed back to station.
“We wish the patient a full and speedy recovery.”
Due to the challenging and remote terrain of the dunes, specialist Coastguard vehicles were essential in safely reaching and extracting the casualty.
We echo the Coastguard’s wishes and hope the woman makes a full and speedy recovery.
