Ince Woods is to remain closed in both directions overnight due to unsafe trees

Emergency services were called to a RTC at 11:45 am this morning due to Storm Debi which has battered the Sefton area today with gale force winds.

A tree fell in Ince Woods onto a car and almost killing the occupants who were extremely lucky. The car suffered a smashed windscreen.

It has now been confirmed that the road will remain completely closed until tomorrow due to unsafe trees.

An eyewitness at the scene said: "There were no injuries for the man and woman in car, they both got out of the car okay and were just shaken. There was one car involved from what I could see and only the windscreen was smashed."

Police closed off the road immediately in both directions. A spokesperson from Merseyside Police said: "Please be advised that Ince woods, A565, Ince Blundell is closed in both directions, due to a fallen tree and several other unsafe trees."

"The road will be closed for most of the day and into the night which may affect travel into Formby and Southport."

A spokesperson from Sefton Council said: "Due to a fallen tree, the A565 & Lady Green Lane are both currently closed. Avoid the area and seek an alternative route if travel is necessary."

"The road will now remain fully closed overnight as contractors work to remove dangerous trees damaged by Storm Debi."

"Motorists should plan journeys ahead of time and use alternative routes."
