There’s been growing concern across Formby this week following reports that the Gild Hall will be closing down after the first week in July. Acts such as Mike Byrne and The Sunrockers have reportedly been told they’ll need to find a new venue, adding to the sense of uncertainty in the community.
Formby Bubble has reached out to the Archdiocese of Liverpool, which owns the Gild Hall, for an official statement. In the meantime, Our Lady’s Parish has issued the following clarification:
“Fr John has been made aware of the information circulating on Facebook regarding the Gild Hall. He has spoken to the Archdiocese of Liverpool and it has been confirmed that a process is now beginning to look at the business in the Gild Hall. This should be a lengthy process and the Archdiocese has not reached any decision. Fr John will be speaking to all the parishioners in detail about what he has been told at the Masses this weekend. After the weekend all will be much clearer.”
Information has been circulated on Facebook today concerning the Gild Hall. This information is not correct. The Archdiocesan Parish Centre Management Committee, who owns and operates the Licence in the Gild Hall, are beginning a review of the business and its viability in the future. The building is the property of Our Lady’s Parish and is not being closed, regardless of decisions that may be made in the future regarding the operation of the Licence.
This is a process that is only just beginning and when the outcome is known, information will be made public.”
For now, it appears no final decision has been made about the future of the Gild Hall or the activity centre at the back of the building. Formby Bubble will continue to follow this story closely and update you as soon as more information becomes available.
