Formby Woman Awarded MBE in The King’s Birthday Honours List

A Formby woman has received one of the country’s highest honours after being recognised in The King’s Birthday Honours List.

Jennifer Swain, who grew up in Formby and attended Holy Trinity Primary School and Formby High School, has been awarded an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) for her outstanding services to the transport and logistics industry.

Throughout her career, Jennifer has been passionate about creating opportunities for people who often face significant barriers to employment. Known for her strong values, fairness and compassion, she has worked tirelessly to ensure that people are judged on their potential rather than their circumstances.

While working for a major corporate organisation, Jennifer championed diversity and inclusion, helping to transform recruitment practices and opening doors for individuals who may otherwise have struggled to find employment. Her work supported people from a wide range of backgrounds, including those who are neurodivergent, experiencing homelessness, long-term unemployed, returning to work after raising families, former military personnel, ex-offenders and members of the LGBTQ+ community.

Her industry-leading and award-winning Fresh Start programme became a blueprint for change and ultimately led to her taking up a senior role with Road to Logistics, a Community Interest Company dedicated to creating employment opportunities across the UK.

Through the organisation, Jennifer has helped secure funding from government bodies to provide training and qualifications in LGV driving, warehouse operations and forklift truck roles, ensuring participants have genuine employment opportunities waiting for them at the end of the programme.

The MBE recognises not only Jennifer’s achievements within the logistics sector but also the life-changing impact she has had on thousands of people across the country.

Her family say they are immensely proud of her achievement, and it’s clear that Formby can be proud too.
