Formby Junior Sports Clubs Under 9 Whites and Under 9 Blacks reach semi-finals after thrilling cup ties last weekend.

REPRESENTATIVE TEAM MATCHES

FJSC Under 9 Whites had a very competitive game against a strong SouthportHesketh team in the Quarter Final of the Jim Rourke Trophy.   FJSC finished the first half strongly with three goals from Luke Clarke, Ben Donnelly and Archie Jones.

The goalkeepers made lots of saves in the second half as the match became increasingly exciting.  Southport Hesketh scored twicemaking it a nervy last five minutes for the Whites.  FJSC dug deep and held out for the win to move into the semi-finals where they will play Crosby Stuart JFC the conquerors of FJSC Reds in another quarter final match.

Luke Clarke for his brilliant performance on the left wing and Maxwell Rathbone for his first half defending were awarded with Man of the Match awards.

FJSC Under 9 Blacks played at home against Burscough Dynamo Green in the quarter final of the Shield event. Both teams started strongly. The breakthrough came for the Blacks when Theo Dunn scored giving the Blacks the lead before the half time.

Undeterred Burscough regrouped at half time and soon found the equaliser.  There was goalmouth action at both ends before FJSC went ahead from a Burscough own goal. Burscough soon countered and drew back level again at 2-2. A tactical change round of positions in the dying minutes resulted in Charlie Barnes slotting the ball neatly homefor the winning goal which takes FJSC Blacksinto the semi- finals . Man of the Match was Theo Dunn for a well taken goal and growing in confidence each week.

FJSC Under 13 Blacks Sunday team started the first half in fine fashion and played some of their best football this season againstCraven Minor Premier League leaders Bootle in the semi-final of the cup. There was some great interplay all over the pitch which saw theBlacks take a 4-1 lead in the first half with twogood goals from Isaac Jones and one goal each from Caden Walker and Charlie Richardson.

FJSC picked up a couple of unfortunate injuries in the second half and the team’s flow in the game as a result became a littledisrupted. This allowed Bootle to get a foothold into the game. Bootle fought their way back with two goals to make it 4-3. With seconds left on the clock Bootle were awarded a penalty and levelled for a 4-4 score line.  The dreaded penalty shoot-out followed andafter eleven penalties Bootle scored the winning spot kick to knock FJSC out of the cup.  It was a huge disappointment for the boys but they gave everything on the pitch.  It was a very unlucky way to exit the cup competition but a great effort.

FJSC Under 14 Blacks Saturday team gained an excellent 6 nil victory over FCN Yellows in the Hightown Junior League.  Seb Burdett- Clarke scored a hat trick.  Fabian Reilly scored a brace and there was also a goal for Harry Redhead.

On Sunday FJSC Under 14 Blacks were back in action against Altown in the West LancsLeague. It was a very tight game and at half time the score was 1-1. It was all action in the second half.  Altown went into a 2-1 lead.  FJSC then equalised and then took a 3-2 lead.  Altown responded with two goals but incredibly FJSC equalised again for 4-4.  Had the final whistle gone at this point a draw would have been a fair result but two late goals were scored by Altown for a 6-4 win.  It was a very exciting topsy-turvy match.  SebBurdett-Clarke scored twice for FJSC with one goal each from Fabian Reilly and Connor Howells.   There were a lot of positives for FJSC Blacks to take forward to the next match.

FJSC Under 14 Whites were depleted due to a few illnesses and consequently struggled in the first half of their fixture with Southport FC Community Yellows and trailed 3 nil at the interval. The second half was a different story as the Whites upped their game to put in a determined effort to get back into the match. Jaron Fox in particular gave his all and scored a great goal by dribbling passed the Southport full back and smashing the ball into the top corner of the net.  The final score was a 4-1 defeat for the Whites but it was a much better team performance in the second half.  Man of the Match was Jaron Fox.

FJSC Under 13 Blacks Saturday team went into game with Lydiate knowing that a win would guarantee them a shot of the runners up spot in the Winter Premier League.

FJSC started well on a pitch that was more mud than grass. The team battled well and played some good football making the ball do the work. By half time it was 3-0 after good goals from Isaac Jones, Ben Webster and Charlie Richardson. In the second half, FJSC pushed on with a goal from Caden Walker and two more from Isaac Jones to complete a fine hat trick. FJSC secured a comfortable 6-0 win to give them one more game to claim second place in the league.

FJSC Under 13 Whites travelled to Southport FC . The teams had played out a draw earlier in the season so a very closely contested match was expected.  Southport started strongly and opened the scoring with their centre forward out pacing Formby’s defence to finish.  Formby finished the half strong with a serious of dangerous set pieces and corners and finally found the breakthrough with NikKostakis latching on to a Zac Hooson-Jones through ball for the equaliser.

FJSC were the stronger team in the second half, taking the lead with Archie Marron’sbrilliant finish.  Southport hit back to draw level and the game looked like finishing in another draw until Albie Salters popped up with a late winner.

FJSC Under 12 Whites and FJSC Under 12 Blacks Saturday teams both won importantHightown Junior League matches.

FJSC Under 12 Whites won 5 nil against Forefield Blue to stay in second position in the Hightown Premier League just one point behind the league leaders Muniflex. It was an all round brilliant team performance.  Zac Cooper scored twice and there was one goal each for Josh Halpin, Kayden Watters and Diego Funes- Cervera.

Second  placed FJSC Under 12 Blacks playedleague leaders Forefield White in a top of the table clash.  Forefield took a first half lead.  FJSC drew level early in the second half when Jasper House scored.   The Blacks then went ahead when Michael Wain scored following an assist from Tom Murphy.  The Blacks now playing with confidence made sure of the all-important three points with two further goals from James Coulton and Michael Wain again for a 4-1 win.  After the Saturday matches were all played four teams including FJSC Blacks share the lead at the top of the Championship Division.

It was FJSC Blacks sixth win in succession.  The Man of the Match  award was equally shared by the whole squad.

FJSC Under 11 Blacks played Southport and Ainsdale Reds on a dreary Sunday morning.  For the first time this season the squad was depleted with no available substitutes.  The boys battled well in a closely contested first half. Both teams pushed and probed with S. &A. testing the Blacks backline.

Formby started the second half the stronger of the two teams going close on a few occasions and having a goal ruled out for offside in a close call. Unfortunately injury struck on a couple of occasions and whilst the Blacks were down to eight players in the 9 aside match their opponents scored to take the lead. Despite their best efforts with eight players FJSC could not find an equaliser. Unfortunately they fell to their first defeat of the season but will learn from this and come back stronger for the remainder of the season.

FJSC Under 10 Whites started well in their match against Southport Athletic Black.  The Whites passing was much improved due the hard work put in at training. Southport took the lead but the Whites equalised when JosephElsey scored before half time. Unfortunatelythe second half didn’t go the way for the Whites. Southport scored another five goals.  FJSC had some good chances to score butfound the Southport Athletic keeper on top form and the Whites just couldn’t score. It wasthe best the Under 10 Whites team have played all season and each week the team isgetting stronger and stronger.

FJSC Under 9 Reds played their first ever cup game on Sunday. They had been given the hardest possible draw against the high flying Crosby Stuart from the North Division. The Reds struggled in the first half and were overpowered on numerous occasions by their strong opponents. The team were held together by Finley Constable who made a number of outstanding saves to keep the score respectable at half time.

The second half saw a rejuvenated Reds compete with their opponents and create a number of good opportunities. This culminated in a penalty which was ruthlessly despatched by Ed Makinson.  Man of the Match was Finley Constable.

FJSC Under 8 Whites Saturday team had a really tough game in terrible conditions against a strong and well organised Ormskirk team. Tayo Popoola gave FJSC an early lead but Ormskirk came back with some brilliant play.   Goalkeeper Albee Fairhurst made a string of wonderful saves but Ormskirk did manage to still score a number of goals.

The result and weather on the day did not keep the boys’ spirits down for long and at the end of the match were presented with  runners- up medals for finishing second in the Premier Division at their first attempt.

Captain for the day was Sonny Clarke.  The Coaches Man of the Match was Albee Fairhurst and the Parents Man of the Match was awarded to Ollie Jones. Being a new team the boys have been fantastic.  Keep up the good work boys! (See the team photograph above.)

FJSC Under 8 Blacks played Southport Athletic Reds.  Albee Fairhurst and Cole Jones scored in an even game.  Harry Brown was Man of the Match.

FJSC Under 7 Whites travelled to Southport Hesketh and were slow to settle down and as a result Southport bagged a few early goals including an excellent flick past the Formby keeper. Formby did brilliantly for the next half hour keeping Southport Hesketh at bay.  This was due to excellent defensive work from the Man of the Match William Laugley and a number of fine save from the goalkeeper on the day Toby Woodcock. FJSC were unlucky not to score on several occasions with excellent dribbling from Shayan Palin. On only his second game Albie York made a number of timely tackles alongside Teddy Gillingham in midfield. FJSC finally found the back of the net with a well taken finish from Kayden Dowdell. A fight back looked on the cards but FJSC ran out of steam with Southport scoring again just before the finalwhistle.
