Formby High A Level & BTEC results in what has been a very challenging and unusual year

This year, more than ever, Formby High School is delighted to share the outstanding achievements of students in their A Levels and vocational qualifications this summer.

Like the British Olympic Team in Tokyo, our Year 13 students have earned ‘Gold Standard’ grades through their perseverance, application and determination to succeed. Many students have opted to head off to university in September, securing places on an A to Z of degree courses, from Aeronautical Engineering to Zoology with an interesting selection in between, including Geology, Philosophy & Politics and Urban Planning.

There has been a noticeable increase this year in the number of students progressing to university to pursue Engineering courses, a positive reflection on the priority placed on the Engineering curriculum in school. In addition, several high-flying students have opted to study aviation related degree courses, including Aerospace & Aeronautical Engineering as well as Aviation Management. Perhaps inspired by the collective effort of the NHS workforce throughout the pandemic, many students have put themselves forward as future NHS heroes, choosing to pursue careers in Medicine, Physiotherapy, Pharmacology and Cancer Studies. One student has even secured an NHS bursary to study Radiography at the University of Leeds.

‘Determined to Achieve’

This year, students were put through rigorous assessments in school and have achieved excellent grades on merit. Whether progressing to university, commencing an apprenticeship or taking a gap year, Year 13 students can leave Formby High School knowing they have risen to the challenge, done their very best and made their teachers and family proud.

Fiona Grieveson, Chair of Governors, said:

“FHS Governors are immensely proud of all the work and achievements of our students, especially after such a difficult and disrupted year. Our teachers have worked tirelessly to ensure students are able to progress towards their chosen post-18 pathways, and we look forward to seeing what they will achieve in the future.”

Mr Mackenzie, Headteacher, commented:

“Whilst many students would have preferred to sit examinations, they should feel pleased with all they have achieved and excited about what lies ahead. Success is a team effort and thanks must go to their teachers and parents who have provided great teaching, and calm guidance and reassurance along the way. Take a bow, Year 13. Your achievements are commendable and we have enjoyed you being part of the FHS community along the way. Best wishes for your continued success!”
