Food Waste Caddies Won’t Arrive in August After All as Sefton Council Confirms Delay

Following our story yesterday about new food waste caddies being delivered to homes across Formby in August, Sefton Council has confirmed there has been a delay to the rollout.

The Council has told Formby Bubble that households will not begin receiving their food waste caddies in August as originally expected.

According to Sefton Council, the delay is due to several factors, including unprecedented demand from councils across the country, all ordering food waste collection equipment to meet the same national deadline.

The Council says that despite taking part in a joint Liverpool City Region procurement exercise and booking manufacturing slots in advance, suppliers were unable to produce the required equipment on time.

Sefton Council has also confirmed that it, together with its City Region partners, sought Government approval to introduce the new service later than originally planned.

The good news is that the Council says it remains on schedule to begin weekly food waste collections this winter. The majority of the indoor and outdoor food waste caddies, along with the supply of liners, have now arrived in Sefton and are being stored safely until they are ready to be distributed.

The Council says it will announce when deliveries to households will begin and provide residents with further information about how the new service will operate as the rollout gets closer.
