Every Wish Made a Difference: Emily’s Raises an Incredible £3,204 for Clatterbridge in Memory of Terry

A very special fundraising effort in Formby has raised an incredible £3,204.98 for Clatterbridge Cancer Charity, in memory of a much loved dad whose family will never forget the kindness and compassion they received during one of the most difficult times of their lives.

There were emotional scenes at Emily’s in Formby earlier this week when Emma from Clatterbridge visited to receive the cheque, marking the culmination of hundreds of donations made through the venue’s remarkable Contactless Wishing Well.

But behind that impressive total is a deeply personal story. Clatterbridge Cancer Charity was chosen as one of the charities supported by the wishing well in memory of Terry, the much loved dad of Emily’s Head of Marketing, Emma.

Last year, Terry spent time on Ward 3 at the Liverpool Clatterbridge Cancer Centre. During an incredibly difficult period for Terry and those closest to him, his family say they were surrounded by extraordinary care, kindness and compassion from the people looking after him.

It is something they have never forgotten, now in Terry’s memory, they have been able to give something back to the people who were there for their family when they needed them most.

An amazing £3,204.98 has been raised, with guests at Emily’s helping simply by stopping at the Contactless Wishing Well, making a wish and tapping to donate.

There were some particularly special contributions along the way…

Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard and comedian Michael McIntyre donated a fantastic £2,000 when they visited Emily’s to film their Say It To My Face segment.

Formby Stormers also got behind the cause, raising a wonderful £120 through their Christmas run.

Every other tap and donation, large or small, helped push the total even higher.

For Terry’s family and the team at Emily’s, however, this has always been about far more than a number on a cheque.

They said: “Whilst no amount of money could ever repay the care and kindness shown to Terry and his family, we hope this can be a small way of saying thanks, whilst helping Clatterbridge be there for other families in the same way they were there for ours.”

They also thanked every person who stopped at the wishing well and played a part in reaching the incredible total.

“Every tap, every penny and every little wish can hopefully make a difference to many more people.”

And the wishes are continuing…

The Contactless Wishing Well remains nestled in the corner of the terrace at Emily’s, but it is now raising money for another cause incredibly close to the hearts of the team.

Its current charity is the British Heart Foundation, in memory of another much loved dad, Jed, father of Emily’s team member Lydia.

What began as a wonderfully simple idea in the heart of Formby has become something very special.

Behind every tap is a donation. Behind every donation is a wish. And behind this £3,204.98 cheque is a family saying thank you to the people who cared for someone they loved.

For Terry, and for all the other families whose lives have been touched by Clatterbridge, this really is a wonderful achievement by everyone involved.
