Emergency Gas Repairs Close Ravenmeols Lane Level Crossing in Formby Until Friday 6 November

Motorists in Formby are facing several days of disruption after Ravenmeols Lane was completely closed at the railway level crossing with Queens Road, with emergency gas repairs now confirmed as the reason for the closure.
The busy route has been blocked off with red safety barriers, road closure signs and traffic management equipment, preventing vehicles from travelling through the level crossing.
Diversions are in place, directing motorists towards Formby Bridge, with drivers advised to allow additional time for their journeys.
Emergency Gas Repairs Confirmed
Formby Bubble has now established that the closure is connected to emergency gas repair work being carried out by Cadent Gas.
The closure began at 4.28pm on Sunday 1 November 2026 and is currently scheduled to remain in place until 11.59pm on Friday 6 November 2026.
The roadworks notice confirms that Cadent is responsible for the emergency repairs and that the necessary permit has been granted.
Cadent Gas states: “Cadent are carrying out Emergency gas repair works. These repairs can take time to resolve, but this is to ensure that we continue to provide the safest and most reliable service to our customers.”
The works are officially classified as utility repair and maintenance, with the road closure listed as the traffic management arrangement.
Motorists Diverted Via Formby Bridge
The closure affects an important route through Formby, particularly for residents travelling between Ravenmeols Lane, Queens Road and surrounding residential areas.

Photographs taken by Formby Bubble show the level crossing completely blocked by temporary barriers, with additional warning signs positioned further along Ravenmeols Lane.
Motorists are being diverted towards Formby Bridge, which may result in additional traffic and longer journey times, particularly during the morning and afternoon rush hours.
Drivers are encouraged to plan alternative routes and follow the official diversion signs.
Why Was There No Information on Sefton Council’s Website?
The closure initially caused confusion because residents were unable to find details explaining why the road had been shut or how long the restrictions would remain in place.
However, Formby Bubble has located the official roadworks record through Causeway one.network, which provides information about roadworks, utility repairs and traffic restrictions.
The notice identifies Cadent Gas as the organisation responsible for the work. The official reference number is AZ1221001552272-01, and the permit is recorded as granted.
The information was last updated on Monday 2 November at 3.04pm.
When Will Ravenmeols Lane Reopen?
The current scheduled end date is Friday 6 November 2026 at 11.59pm. However, as these are emergency gas repairs, the completion time may change depending on the nature of the problem and the progress of the work.
The published date should therefore be treated as the anticipated end of the roadworks rather than a guaranteed reopening time.
Formby Bubble Will Keep Residents Updated
We will continue monitoring the situation and any changes to the expected reopening date.
In the meantime, motorists should avoid the closed section of Ravenmeols Lane and use the signed diversion route.
