Yesterday afternoon, Southport Lifeboat volunteers were paged to respond to an emergency at Formby Beach after reports came in of multiple people struggling in the water.
The Southport Lifeboat was launched immediately, and quad bike crews headed along the coastline towards the scene to assist. Formby Beach can be a beautiful place to enjoy the sea — but as we often remind our readers, its fast-moving tides and hidden sandbanks can quickly catch people out.

Thankfully, by the time the lifeboat arrived, other emergency agencies already on scene had brought the situation under control, and the Southport crew were safely stood down shortly afterwards.

The lifeboat was recovered and washed down by 5:45pm — just in time for the dedicated crew to grab a quick bite before returning for their regular weekly training session at 7pm. Their commitment to keeping our coastline safe is truly remarkable.
💬 Formby Bubble would like to thank the Southport Lifeboat crew and all emergency services involved in the call-out. Their quick response and teamwork are a vital part of keeping our beaches safe for everyone.
⚠️ Please remember: the sea around Formby can look calm, but it can be unpredictable. Always check tide times, never swim alone, and in an emergency on the coast, dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
