If you regularly walk the coastal path near the firing range or between Range High School and Hoggs Hill Lane, there’s an important update.
The Public Right of Way known as Footpath Altcar No. 05 is now CLOSED.

This is the off-road footpath that runs:
From St Luke’s Church Road
Past Range High School
Alongside the firing range
Down towards Hoggs Hill Lane
Connecting towards the coastline
Why Is It Closed?
Sefton Council are carrying out footpath upgrade works to improve the surface and overall condition of the route.
This is planned improvement work, not an emergency closure.
How Long Will It Be Closed?
From 16 February
Until 11 June (11:59pm)
The closure is in place all day, every day until the work is finished.

Can You Still Walk Around the Area?
Yes. The surrounding roads remain open and are being used as an alternative walking route, including:
Hoggs Hill Lane
Range Lane
Barton Heys Road
Jubilee Road
St Luke’s Church Road
However, the direct off-road coastal path itself is closed.
If you use this route for school runs, dog walks or coastal walks, please allow extra time and follow any diversion signage in place.
We’ll update you if anything changes.
