The family of Dr Roger Parker have shared the sad news that he passed away peacefully on 15 January, following a short illness with pneumonia, just weeks before his 90th birthday. He died with his family by his side.
Dr Parker devoted his entire working life to serving the people of Formby as a GP. For generations of patients, he was far more than a doctor, he was a constant, trusted presence, known for his dedication, kindness and deep commitment to the community he cared for so deeply.

He loved Formby and its people and was a familiar face to many around the village. Those who knew him will smile at the thought that next time they find themselves enjoying a quiet coffee at Nero’s, they might pause for a moment and think of Roger, whose life was so closely woven into the fabric of the community.
Born in Liverpool, Roger grew up in Crosby, in where he attended Merchant Taylor’s School. He went on to study medicine in Liverpool, later training as a GP.
His medical career began at Ashurst Surgery, where he joined as a junior partner. In later years, he went on to establish The Village Surgery, further cementing his lifelong commitment to local healthcare.
Roger met his beloved wife, Faith, at the Hightown Club, a place that featured throughout their lives and those of their children. They married in Hightown in 1961 and made their home on Argarmeols Road, where they lived for 60 years before moving in 2021 to Sevenoaks to be closer to family.

A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, Roger was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed. His compassion, professionalism and quiet humanity have left a lasting legacy in Formby that will not be forgotten.
Details of a video link for the funeral will be shared in due course.
Our thoughts are with Roger’s family, friends, former colleagues and the many patients whose lives he touched.
