Fab Feb for Formby Community Football Club

Wow – what a great February FCFC have had! We were hit with numerous storms over the month but that didn’t dampen our spirits! We saw the Walkers remain 3 points clear at the top of the Walking Football League, by winning 2 and drawing 1 game in Feb’s fixtures, well done to the Walkers and Carl, also wishing Carl a speedy recovery after his ACL reconstruction.

Our U14 Girls are sitting top of the Girls West Lancs League, and also top of their division’s in the Hightown Leagues are U15 Girls, and U14 Real Girls, congratulations to all the girls and Managers Kev, Paul and Martin.

The Girls have had very little football this year due to the storms making their appearances each weekend! It is great to see how well all the girl’s teams are doing, but more importantly how much they are enjoying their football, its always amazing to see a sea of Orange at Hightown on a Sunday!! Thanks to the Managers and their assistants who give up their time to manage the girls. It is brilliant when you think that for the U6,7,8,10 it is their first time playing in a League, and the teams have bonded really well.

The U9, two U11 teams, U12 and two U13 teams, have had some good results and will now embark with the other teams on the Spring League, as well as Semi Finals nights at Waterloo Rugby Club on 17th March for U8,9,10,11

FCFC U8 Boys have completed their winter league fixtures and are now starting on the Spring fixtures in the Hightown League, each Week Managers Andy and Al say how pleased they are with the progress the boys are making, it was great to see them take part in their first tournament as FCFC on the 22nd ! U13 and U16 teams have also been hit with postponements due to the storms, but all are experiencing some challenging games playing in the Liverpool Premier League, thanks to Ray, Ronnie, Hammy and Simon and their assistants for running the teams.

The VETS managed 3 wins on the bounce, and Darren and the players were delighted, Darren put the success down to “we all actually know each other’s names now which really helps on the pitch” Last but not least we have the Ladies team, who have grown beyond belief! We now have 3 teams competing in the 3 divisions in the County FA She Inspires League. Massive thanks to Fiona who is the driving force behind the women and has been on a mass recruitment drive. The women train on a Thursday and with having 3 groups this means that anyone can have a go as we take any level from beginner to experienced and can slot players into any of the 3 teams.

Many thanks all the players and Managers who came along to our photoshoot on 15th, we have some great shots for our new Web shop and can’t wait for it to go live later this month. You will be able to buy all training and match day gear for Players, Managers and Spectators.

Massive thanks to the Oliver King Foundation who came down to train up a number of Managers on the defib, and we look forward to Mark King (Olivers dad) coming down to present the Defib next week. Huge thanks also to the Jamie Carragher 23 Foundation who have kindly donated the defib to our club. 23rd Feb was a momentous day for 2 Clubs on Merseyside, Everton Ladies, who were playing Man Utd in their brand-new home of Walton Hall Park, and FCFC as it was our first outing as mascots for Everton Ladies. Yet again a sea of Orange was on display as 22 of our Members escorted both sets of players out onto the pitch at Walton Hall Park for the first time, the FCFC members were then able to meet and have selfies with many of the players after the match. It was brilliant to be able to watch it all back on the BBC later that night on the Womens Super league show, and the icing on the cake was featuring in the men’s programme on Sunday !! Thanks to all the players, parents and families for coming down. Little update on Club numbers, we are delighted to say that we have now hit 28 teams and 387 members, an incredible number in 11 months!!

Last but not least we are excited and honoured to have been selected for the 2nd year running for the Cash for Kids Sporting Challenge. The aim is to compete against other fellow sporting clubs in the area to raise the most money in 28 days. Last Year we won this by raising £5,464.65, Cash for Kids then donated a further £5000.00 to the club, which was fantastic! It also gives us as a club a unique opportunity to come together and fund raise for our club. We all said that competing in the challenge was great as it brought us closer together as a club and we put on some great events: Bike ride from Hunts Cross to Formby Filling Smarties tubes with 20p’s Generation Game (9 Adults playing against …about…90 kids) Bag packing in M&S Football scratch cards If you have any other fund-raising ideas, please get in touch, each team will be getting involved. If any parents / Members or Supporters work for a company who offer CSR Match funding, please get in touch as this is a great way for us to boost our total! Dates of fundraising events will be released later this week, if you can help please get in touch. There will be 3 meetings a season, 1 hour long and it’s a chance or the Youth to have an input into the club, so would be brilliant to have a voice from all teams Thursday 12th March – 7pm 3G pitches FA Mentor Ray Curtis will be hosting a practical training session that all Managers, and assistants are welcome to attend Saturday 14th March FC (FCFCFC Formby Community Football Club Frenzied Challenge) 12.00 -15.00 3G pitches – More information to follow
