Formby Junior Sports Club - Franks report - 28/10/19
There was a much reduced programme of fixtures for Formby Junior Sports Club last weekend due to cancellations because of waterlogged pitches and the start of the half term holiday. As a result only four matches were played. FJSC Under 9 Blacks were in action against FC Diamond and recorded their first ever win. See team photograph above. Both teams played well in the first half but FJSC started to look the stronger and were rewarded when a through ball was played to Thomas Donnelly who tucked it away calmly following a surging run from the back. Just before the break Oliver Dean broke through the centre of the pitch and played a through ball for Lewis Donoghue to double the Under 9’s lead before half time. For the first fifteen minutes of the second half the two teams played some excellent football. Charlie Knowles made some timely challenges at the back and goalkeeper Sam Uttley made a great save following a long-range effort. FC Diamond managed to pull a goal back but FJSC held firm and kept pressing in search of another goal. In an exciting finale Thomas Donnelly finally scored the all-important next goal to secure this memorable victory for FJSC Under 9 Blacks. Man of the match for a solid performance, tenacity and two goals scored was Thomas Donnelly. Formby Junior Sports Club Under 14 Whites played away at Phoenix. It proved to be a game of two halves, as the saying goes, with Phoenix taking the lead early on in the match. Phoenix continued to play well and FJSC found their opponents difficult to break down. The Whites eventually equalised and immediately grew in confidence. There were good performances from Steven Mordaunt and Jack Rummens as the Under 14’s began to take control of the game and goal scoring opportunities presented themselves and were clinically taken by FJSC. Luke Honour scored a hat trick and there were two goals each for Henry Peck and Ellis Parry. Steven Mordaunt and Jack Rummens were also on target with one goal each in the 9-1 win. There was also a terrific display from Harry Graham who brought some composure to the midfield, but the stand out display came from Luke Honour for some wonderful assists and excellent finishing in front of goal. FJSC Under 14 Whites are now in third position in the league. FJSC Under 10 Blacks continued their good run of form with another impressive team display. The Blacks travelled to Burscough Dynamo Yellows and despite having to play the entire match with one player short played remarkably well. All the team members worked hard and were very disciplined when defending. Some great goals were scored on counter attacks. Man of the match Dominic Maxwell scored five times. Luca Massey and James Cook completed the scoring with one goal each. Will Brown, Charlie Garvey and Freddie Garvey also deserve special mention for their tireless efforts for the team. The match between FJSC Under 7 Whites and Redgate Greens was a really good match. FJSC took the lead early on in the game but the Redgate boys came back strongly. Hughie MacLeod scored three goals for FJSC and there was a man of the match performance from Joshua Davidson in defence. FJSC Under 18 Girls’ are to be congratulated on being West Lancs Girls’ Youth Division leaders after the first two months of the season.
