Formby Junior Sports Club - Franks report - 08/10/19

Rain did not stop play at the weekend with all Formby Junior Sports Club’s scheduled Representative team matches being played. There was a very evenly contested match between mid table rivals FJSC Under 15 Blacks and Hesketh Colts. It was a disappointing first half performance from the Blacks who trailed 1 nil at half time. Two FJSC players, centre backs Callum Davidson and Jamie Duggan, played very well to thwart a lively Hesketh Colts forward line otherwise the deficit would have been greater. A half time team talk asking for a much more determined effort worked wonders after the break and soon the Blacks upped their game. Rylie Read equalised, scoring a great goal after a good move. An unfortunate FJSC penalty miss minutes later could have decided the game but a 1-1 draw was the fair result. Joint players of match were defenders Callum Davidson with Jamie Duggan. James Everett deserves special mention for volunteering to play in goal and doing so well. FJSC Under 16 Girls’ Jets played Churchtown Athletic in a close and well fought match. The Jets were slightly unlucky not to get something from the match. A slow start, however, saw Churchtown take an early lead before the Jets grew into the game and starting to put more pressure on Churchtown’s goal. Following a cleared Jets corner, midfielder Katie Leech latched on to the ball and swept it into the corner to equalise. Churchtown went ahead again shortly before half time from a well-worked corner, which was slightly against the run of play. The Jets equalised again halfway through the second half from a great, long range volley from right back Anna Johnson but two late goals from Churchtown gave them the win. FJSC Under 17 Boys travelled to high-flying Fieldway. FJSC took the lead with Callum Richmond taking advantage of an error by the Fieldway keeper. Fieldway were soon level and by half time had moved into a 3-1 lead. In the second half, FJSC missed a penalty to make it 3-2 when the ball struck the crossbar. A further couple of well-taken goals from Fieldway made the final score 5-1. FJSC’s man of the match was Callum Richmond. FJSC Under 14 Whites and FJSC Under 14 Blacks had no matches at the weekend but are looking forward to next Saturday when the two teams play each other in a league match. It was a tough day at the office for FJSC Under 12 Blacks who were playing against a very strong Birkdale team. Formby made a good start and competed well. It was nip and tuck for the first twenty minutes with Isaac Bird equalising an early Birkdale goal with a fine individual effort. Goalkeeper Bowie Mavers made several fine saves to keep FJSC in the game. The half time score was 3-1 to Birkdale in what was still a competitive game. However, after the break Formby gave away sloppy possession and individual errors led to several goals being conceded. Credit to Birkdale for some fine play and excellent goals too. The Blacks must remember what they have done well this season, to work hard in training and to continue to improve. It was a very good weekend for FJSC’s two Under 10 teams. On Saturday FJSC played Northern FC. It was strong second half team display by FJSC. Charlie Garvey scored a hat trick, there were two goals from James Cook and one goal apiece for Freddie Garvey, Luca Massey and Henry Jones. On Sunday FJSC Under 10 Blacks were in action against Southport and Ainsdale. It was another good team performance with Archie Ogden, Dominic Maxwell, Charlie Garvey and Luca Massey all scoring one goal each. The man of the match was the S. and A. goalkeeper who had an outstanding game making a string of wonderful saves. FJSC Under 9 Whites slipped to their first defeat of the season against a very well organised Phoenix side. Despite taking the lead in the first half with a well-taken Harry Nelson strike this even contest was won after some great goals from Phoenix. There were some absolute heroics in goal from man of the match Adam Jackson who kept his team within touching distance. There were missed opportunities for FJSC to add to their one goal. It was a really encouraging performance, which should breed some confidence going into the next match. FJSC Under 8 Girls Bobcats played Churchtown Athletic. The Bobcats took the lead with Gabriella Otty scoring. Shortly after this Churchtown Athletic equalised. Some strong midfield and defensive work saw the Bobcats go in front again with Sienna Kamel scoring after a strong run from defence. Sophia Kamel then scored just before half time. Just a few minutes into the second half Gabriella Otty scored two great goals to complete her hat trick. One of them being a great strike from just past the half way line! Churchtown Athletic scored again before Emily Lavin found the back of the net with a strong shot on goal. A special mention to new player Emilia Guy, who made her debut, played very well and received the player of the match award. The Bobcats have made a great start to the season with two wins from two matches played. There was an excellent game played between FJSC Under 7’s and Crosby Stuart. Man of the match in a very good team display was Harry McKenna. Hughie Macleod once again had his shooting boots on and scored five. Also playing well were Zac Hooson-Jones, Matthew Crutchley Adam Patel and George Hayes. Next Sunday the boys will be playing in the Craven Minor League Trophy Event at Edge Hill University. FJSC’s two Under 6 teams enjoyed matches against ESC and also Southport Trinity. In the first game against ESC, Harley Evans scored on his debut. Also on the scoresheet with goals were Mason Stringer and Jude Massey. Rory Rankine, Oliver Hall-Gleeson and Jude Massey all put in outstanding performances and were voted joint players of the match. There was a slow start in the second game against Southport Trinity but the Under 6’s soon found their goal scoring touch after Jaiden Crosby opened the scoring. Also amongst the goals were Joshua Halpin, Mason Stringer, Ted McAuley, and Josh Tallon. Ted McAuley and Max McAuley played brilliantly alongside Josh Tallon who put in a battling performance.
