Formby Junior Sports Club - Franks report - 15/09/19
It was another double success for Formby Junior Sports Club’s two Under 18 teams and there were also a number of very good team performances from the club’s younger teams as well. Sam Cawley and Nina Macy scored early on for FJSC Under 18 Girls in their match with Langho. Lucy Charalambou rounded off a great performance with a well-taken goal. Rachelle Douras-Hanlon and Jayde Hanlon scored two goals each and came close to completing hat tricks. The final score was 7 nil and as a result the Under 18's are joint top of the division after two matches played. In an Under 18 Girls’ friendly match Abby Hobbs and Aimee Hollis were both scorers. It was a very closely contested match between FJSC Under 18 Boys and Birkdale United with the score 1-1 at half time. The scorers were Oliver Shaw, Callum Richmond and Charlie Cook. Man of the match was Sean Lawler-Pilkington. The Under 18's are joint second in the division. FJSC Under 15 Blacks won 6-2 against Dynamo Rangers. It was a good all round performance from the boys. They were challenged before the game to score more goals. The wingers Conor Leyland and Sam Cousens were encouraged to get into the box more and this worked with each of them grabbing a goal.
Lucas Gornall was making his debut and what a fine debut it was. He was brought in to score simple goals that the team sometimes lacks. He delivered on that promise. A Callum Davidson corner from the right found Lucas at the far post and he volleyed it home. His second came from good wing play from the left by Sam Cousens who chipped the ball over the keeper to the far post and Lucas headed it home. His ability is that’s he's in the right place at the right time.
FJSC went three nil up. Dynamo replied with two quick goals before Conor Leyland scored the fourth. Substitutes Christian Schwarze and Joe Nel came on and were in the mood for scoring. Joe Nel's goal was a special one. Joe doesn't score in training and his first goal for FJSC is one that will live long in the memory. He took the ball down the left- hand side past his man and cut inside. The Dynamo keeper was out ready to pounce. Joe then took it around the keeper and slotted home. Everyone was delighted for Joe.
In midweek FJSC Under 15’s lost 6-1 to Southport Trinity. Rylie Read scored and man of the match was Joe Nel.
FJSC Under 14 Whites played Redgate and gained a victory. It was a good team effort by FJSC Whites with accurate passing, resulting in retaining possession. Many scoring opportunities were created. On the score sheet were Luke Honour, Steven Mordaunt, Henry Peck, Marc Whitelaw, Harry Graham, Bobby Hersey, Ellis Parry and Ben Marsh. The man of the match award for some excellent goal assists and unselfish play went to Ellis Parry.
FJSC Under 14 Blacks were short on players for their midweek fixture and came up against a strong side from Hesketh Colts. Hesketh Colts took their chances well in the first half playing some excellent balls through the Formby defence. It was a more encouraging performance for Formby in the second half, which included some really good inter-changing play all the way up the pitch, but unfortunately the goals didn’t come. Man of the match for FJSC was Ethan Smith. FJSC Under 12 Blacks came up against a strong Southport FC side and battled well in the first half, playing some nice football. Southport were much more clinical and deservedly went three goals up before half time. A fine penalty save from Bowie Mavers kept Formby in the game and the second half was a much closer affair. Dan Raw was solid at the back and Finlay Clark and Isaac Bird worked well in midfield. Oscar Fletcher pulled a goal back with a neat finish after a spell of pressure and Ollie Shaw grabbed a consolation goal late on. A good second half performance gives encouragement moving forward.
FJSC Under 10’s Sunday team played Phoenix Aces. Dominic Maxwell scored a hat trick and there were two goals also for Luca Massey. Goalkeeper Will Brown was voted man of the match. The new FJSC Under 10 Saturday team, playing in the Hightown League, were in action against Northfield. It was a very even game. Man of the match Andres Funes- Cervera scored on his debut. Also on target with a goal was Freddie Garvey.
FJSC’s two Under 9 teams played each other. It was a very entertaining match. Thomas Szabo scored three goals and was the Whites man of the match. Owen Griffiths and Harry Nelson also scored for the Whites. Oliver Dean was the Blacks man of the match and scored from a penalty. The Blacks’ keeper Sam Uttley made a number of excellent saves including a Whites’ penalty.
FJSC Under 8 Girls’ Bobcats only had four players in the five-aside match against Ormskirk but did remarkably well. Emily Lavin, Bella Massey, Gabriella Otty and Skylar Davies all scored. FJSC Under 7’s played Formby Wanderers. It proved to be an exciting match. George Hayes scored five and there was also one goal from Matthew Crutchley. Defender Ephraim Sutton was man of the match.
Due to the increasing numbers at Inter Club in the Year One age group, FJSC were able to field two Under 6 Representative teams on Sunday and the boys continued their development with two strong and confident performances.
In the first game there was a great team performance against Maghull. Mason Stringer continued his goal scoring form with a mixture of good individual and team goals. Thomas Crutchley returned and put in a solid performance in midfield alongside Joshua Halpin with both boys scoring goals. Parker Kehoe and Jaiden Crosby as ever had a smile on their faces and both proved that they are improving every week and finding their feet in these matches.
The second game was much closer against a competitive and skilful St Georges. Debuts for Max McAuley and Ted McAuley added to the enthusiasm, with the latter scoring with his first touch after coming off the substitutes bench. It was a resilient performance including some great tackles by all players. Special mention to Max McAuley, showing great game awareness, running the length of the pitch to track back and tackle the St Georges striker who was through on goal and looked certain to score.
