Formby Junior Sports Club - Franks report - 12/05/19
Formby Junior Sports Club won two Hightown Girls’ League Cup Finals last Friday.
In a repeat of last seasons final, FJSC Under 10 Rockets met Crosby Stuart at Finch Farm the home of Everton F.C.’s Training Ground.
A slow start by Rockets saw Crosby take a two-goal lead, which they held at half time. In a week of comebacks, Rockets decided to join in. Three goals within five minutes of the restart saw them take the initiative, with a brace from Sienna Fortune and one from Hannah Jones.
Hard work from Erin Riley, Florence Raikes and Felicity Pendleton kept the pressure on Crosby, with Evie Balshaw, Grace Doyle and Olivia Johnson all outstanding in defence. A fine save from Harriet Tunley denied Crosby an opportunity to get back in the game and the win was secured with further goals from Megan Hulse and Eva Beckett. Crosby managed a late consolation but nothing could detract from yet another fighting come back from Rockets, who in winning 5-3 made it a league and cup double for FJSC.
The other final was an all FJSC encounter played between FJSC Under 8 Galaxy and their younger opponents FJSC Under 7/8 Bobcats. It was a very competitive game with the two teams creating several scoring chances. Galaxy eventually won 6-3 with goals from Amelia Scott, Ella Holden and Sylvie Rhymes.
The girl of the game for FJSC Under 8 Galaxy was Ella Foster for her fantastic saves and great defending.
On Saturday three FJSC girls’ teams played the Isle of Man Under 13 and Under 15 Representative Schools’ teams. There were victories for the two FJSC Under 13 teams – Albion and Real. FJSC Under 15 Jets lost to very talented opponents. All three matches were played in a very sporting way and were enjoyed by all the girls taking part.
